SafeKick’s Mission
At SafeKick, we strive to create empowered solutions for a variety of persistent challenges relating to the understanding and management of conditions expected while planning, or experienced while drilling oil & gas wells. Using refined engineering approaches and purpose-built software designed to enhance human decision-making, we help drilling contractors and operators manage risk more effectively, particularly risks associated with management of wellbore pressures.

SafeKick's Mission Statement"We're interested in new solutions to old problems." About UsSafeKick is a streamlined, collaborative organization founded in late 2009 by a small group of already successful industry professionals seeking to provide solutions, rather than services, to our industry. SafeKick started by trying to identify weaknesses, or gaps in existing products and practices, particularly those relating to critical downhole relationships during drilling operations. Gaps were identified in three key areas:
None of these "gaps" are new, but our solutions are, involving products that use optimal combinations of software, hardware and web-based solutions. Active participation at industry events, conferences and work groups, as well as frequent contact with potential end-users ensures continuing awareness of industry trends and needs. A Rare CombinationDeveloped by a rare combination of people with very high technical skills, strong field knowledge and years of experience, SafeKick's Empowered Solutions are designed for use on the rig and in the office, allowing the same data to be shared by all members of the team in real time. If needed, SafeKick's experts can be brought into the picture to help evaluate and understand the problems and provide some suggestions. SafeVision: The Driller's GPS
Our software products are designed to provide prioritized, common information to all individuals both on and off the rig. SafeVision, our base software platform, helps solve the problem of data overload by utilizing intelligent processing of common rig drilling data to display, in a very intuitive format, a simulation of conditions in the well below the rig floor. In the same way that a GPS can help a driver, it enables those in control of drilling operations to make efficient, timely decisions. SafeVision is available in three different, but related versions to meet different drilling management needs.

SafeVision Training
Most drilling problems can be avoided by keeping the pressure inside the wellbore within what is called the mud weight window. On one hand the knowledge of the pore, collapse or fracture pressures can be estimated with some degree of accuracy; on the other hand knowing the pressure profile inside the wellbore is not an easy task. In the past wells were drilled with a very comfortable mud weight window, which led to many assumptions and generalizations. Often very little attention was paid to the many subtle pressure relationships inside the wellbore. Knowledge of the mud weight at surface was deemed enough. With wells being drilled in more challenging environments, the mud weight window has been reduced significantly. For most wells being drilled today it is critical to know, as accurately as possible, the pressure along the entire annulus. This level of complexity now forces us to look beyond what can be done with rules of thumb or by hand calculations. SafeVision In-Depth Video SeriesIn order to help drilling personnel understand the consequences of routine drilling and well control operations on downhole conditions, SafeKick has developed a series of short tutorials. Please watch the Introduction first and the others can be watched in any order desired. Fundamentals and Basic Concepts
Introduction to SafeVisionThis tutorial introduces the features on the main display of the SafeVision software.
Hydrostatic PressureThis video explains the relationship between hydrostatic pressure and equivalent mud weight.
Effect of Fluid in Movement, FrictionThis video clarifies the effects of friction on pressure calculations within a well.
Effect of Application of Surface PressureThis video explains how increasing pressure in various ways on a well can produce different outcomes.
Effect of Fluid CompressibilityThis video explains how different fluids behave under an increased compression.
Effect of TemperatureThis video explains how temperature can affect mud density.
Effect of Pipe RotationThis video explains how drillstring rotation affects pressures downhole.
Effect of Pipe Movement on Downhole PressuresThis videos explains how the movement of pipes inside the annulus can affect the downhole pressures.
Effect of Density Variation on Downhole PressuresThis videos shows the importance of being aware of variations of density and their effect on the downhole pressures. |
